Put the Villa game on and in the build up bit they showed the highlights of the City game. They then went to Pat Nevin who was like a poor mans Andy Gray with the computerised tactics graphics and all that shite....

What he did do tho' was highlight how bad Dunne's positional sense was today. I personally have been saying lets have a look at Micah in Midfield, but on reflection he's to good a Centre Back to play there and looked like he was breathing out of his arse after 30 mins cos he was doing to much ie. pushing forward instead of sitting, maybe the knock he took on Sunday may of hampered him. His strengths are his ability to recover and close down when pacey forwards get beyond are back 4 and obviously a great tackler and strong in the air.

I know Dunney has been legendary for seasons (except last) however, he is to flat footed when being run at with pace and cant pass the ball, every time he tries passing from the back we lose possession or he hoofs it and we lose possession. Oh and clumsy.

In conclusion I think MH is going to have to make some big decisions in the forthcoming weeks about who is going to partner Micah at Centre Back, Ive been really impressed with Ben Haim since his arrival and obviously Charlie can play there as well (if he stays) and Neddy. As I put in another thread after the first midgetland game, maybe we should of taken the money for Dunne when the offer was there and he wanted to leave. He's still club captain which I think is more to do with him being the longest servant for the club now. He's to quiet and in games like today should of been bellowing orders and leading the boys.

I just want to see if MH has now got the balls to make him a squad player which I can only see as a step in the right direction.

Thoughts?

agreed with all of that, dunney cant pass the ball but he has been very good over recent seasons so lets not forget that either.

Wes - hence the legendary part which I agree. BUT we want to move to the next level and however good he has been in the past doesnt reflect where we want to be in the future. I think he could cost us games ie. the pass which led to the goal in the 1st leg.

Dunne was brilliant today cant drop him after that performance, i would still prefer him to ben haim.

Richards couldnt hack it in midfield simple as that

I think if u'd of seen the parts Pat Nevin picked out, you'd of seen the amount of chances midgetland had thru Dunney!

I think dunne has been a liability in the games he has played since extending his contract. He keeps losing the ball in dodgy places................but to be honest, hes not that much of a worry at the minute.

My problem is ..................is the interest in Zabaleta really to replace corluka! Or concerns over dunne and fernandes?

Wake up and open your eyes!!. Richard Dunne isn't and never was as a good player. Fiftytwo years following this team and Dunne never could cut it "Dave Watson", Now there was a player! No Comparison. Richard Dunne is slow, Neanderthal and has proved on numerous occasions to be a gross liability and should never have had his contract renewed Newcastle should reclaim him

I think we all know Dunne's qualities and faults by now.  Roll Eyes

As much as i understand he's not the be all and end all.... he's still a bloody solid defender, who we'd be daft to bin until we have a stronger squad.

I don't really see the confusion?

I remember a derby game where Dunnie headed everything away all afternoon and old horseface was gnashing his teeth in despair. You could hear it in Bolton.

We were lucky yesterday it wasn't one of Dunnie's OGs that went in!

No Dave Watson - or Bobby Moore for that matter, but we still need him yet I think

When nevin was showing Dunne to be out of "position" did he take into account where the other defenders were?
quite often either Ball and or Corluka were overlapping on the flanks as we had to score, therefore the proper position for the centre halfs changes (not that i would expect pat fcuking nevin to realise this).
Dunnie was his usual immense self yesterday and second only to Joe Hart for mom again.

Richard Dunne must take the blame for Midtjylland's goal in Manchester. In Denmark his marking was shocking on several occasions and thank God Midtjylland left their shooting-boots in the dressing room. He's an honest, hard-working defender but for me it's Ben Haim any time. Just thinks he shoots himself in the foot a bit too often.

TBH it was TBH that gave the danes their best chance of the first half but Dunnie covered it well and got back to block the shot.

Dunne had a good game last night, his positioning has never been the best but hes always had the pace and strength to cover himself. He saved us regularly during the game.

I'd say it was the other way round.

I think his positional sense plays a bigger part than his pace. He reads the game very well. As opposed to Micah, who is a little naive still, but who's pace get's him out of trouble more often than not.

I think his positioning let him down often last night, on a few of the danes chances last night he didnt even no where that striker was untill the ball was with him. But i agree with micah he does use his pace to great effect.

Im just delighted that (when everyones fit) MH will have to choose between Corluka-Ned-Dunny-Kompany-Micah-Ball-Garrido-TBH-(hopefully Zableta). Although it wont be the best back 4 in the league I think they can form a decent defensive unit that has pace and is interchangeable to a degree, at least on the right. Would love to have seen us get a specialist left back of real quality, surely Wayne Bridge would have been a great signing and wouldnt have been keeping his arse warm on the bench for most of the season, he must just be happy collecting his wages every week for doin nout!
